We call dibs on the aux! Need some new (or classic) music choices to support and motivate you on your journey in the business world? Our new playlist just dropped.

Steve Aoki & Laidback Luke ft. Lil Jon - “Turbulence”

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Although we probably wouldn’t recommend having Lil Jon as your pilot, he does do a great job navigating listeners on his song “Turbulence” with Steve Aoki and Laidback Luke. With a bass-heavy beat, this one will be sure to wake you up in the morning or as needed throughout the day to get you pumped up. The music video for this track shows Lil Jon and company riding an airplane directly into a storm. Our biggest takeaway after listening: things can pop up and get turbulent throughout the day and the best way to handle is head-on and maybe with a Lil Jon “YEAAAAAAH!!”

Our favorite line: How could it not be, “WE HIT TURBULENCE!”

Drake - “Started From The Bottom”

This song was a huge hit when it was initially dropped in 2013 (and it still slaps). Drake lays out his path from starting with nothing to being one of the greatest musical talents of all time. This song reminds us things can start out tough. It takes a lot of work, grind, and hustle to get to the top. In addition, when you do make it big, remember where you came from, and keep it real and humble when you see success.

(We’ll save the arguments of Drake actually starting off from the top as a child actor on Degrassi for another blog.)

Our favorite line (We think the song's namesake says it all): “Started from the bottom now we here.”

Gloria Gaynor - “I Will Survive”

This throwback opens up with the line “At first I was afraid, I was petrified,” and we think that can pretty much sum up that last two years. Through lockdowns, mandates, and total uncertainty, so many small businesses have had to adapt and overcome to simply survive.

This track has a disco-like funk vibe to it that will make you wanna boogie, but also has a more serious message. It inspires us because even in the hardest of times, you have to believe in yourself and your ability to get through whatever difficulties are in your path.

Our favorite line: “Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh no, not I! I will survive!”

Future ft. Drake - “Life Is Good”

Future and Drake team up on this song highlighting the grind and entrepreneurship small business owners can relate to. Throughout the music video, Drake and Future are seen working early, late, and abnormal hours to avoid having to deal with a normal day job. It showcases the tough sacrifices they had to make in order for “life to be good.” Small business owners can definitely relate to the abnormal and weekend hours and despite this, most likely wouldn’t trade it.

Our favorite line: “Working on the weekend like usual.”

Drake does follow this line up with “Haven’t done my taxes I’m too turnt up,” but we’d have to strongly advise it’s best you do your taxes.

Kanye West ft. T-Pain - “Good Life”

Say what you want about Kanye, but this song from 2007 is on point and one of Ye’s most recognizable hits. This track is all about achieving and celebrating success. Ye tells his haters to continue hating while laughing from his new Ferrari, private jet, and numerous shopping excursions.

Although your success might not be as lavish as popping champagne on a plane, we still think it’s important to celebrate even minor wins and accomplishments. It goes a long way for pride, happiness, and achieving the next goal.

Our favorite line: “I go for mine, I gots to shine. (Now throw yo' hands up in the sky.)”

Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars: “Billionaire”

Move over Jeff Bezos, we’re coming for ya. Well, not literally, but this song from 2010 is all about hopes and dreams. Bruno and Travie sing about all their future goals, aka being successful and becoming billionaires. If making money is your sole motivation, this song is tailored for you. On a deeper level, it’s important to dream, set goals, and work hard in order to achieve them. Then, hey, maybe one day you’ll be on the cover of Forbes magazine smiling next to Oprah and the Queen (whaddup Oprah?).

Our favorite line: “Oh, I swear the world better prepare for when I’m a billionaire.”

Abba – “Dancing Queen”

OK, so you might be wondering why we chose this one. What could “Dancing Queen” and Abba quite possibly have to do with small business and entrepreneurship? Well, probably nothing.

But, hey, sometimes it’s most important to take a dance break, enjoy what you do, and have fun while doing it!

Our favorite line: We can’t just pick one. We suggest playing this one from start to finish on repeat.
